Tailored, guided adventures with Frozen Wave
We live in harmony with the day's conditions and choose the day's medium of travel and riding area according to our deep local knowledge. Fatbikes are often the best way to reach our favourite powder stashes. We equally love taking experienced riders out for big hard days as well as helping new skiers and snowboarders to get into the backcountry riding safely and with confidence. Avalanche safety and responsible backcountry travel are the prevailing themes on our adventures.
Backcountry ski and splitboarding tours
Experience the backcountry of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park on our guided ski tour. Whether you're new to backcountry touring or a seasoned rider, we take you to our favourite powder stashes and find for us the best possible snow the safest way possible. Safety, technique and deep local knowledge of the local fells and nature are at the heart of every tour.
For skiers & snowboarders. Duration: 8 hours. Skill level: Must have intermediate on-piste skills and some prior experience in riding side-piste in soft snow. No prior ski or splitboard touring experience necessary. An option to approach with an e-bike to most of the riding areas.
Starting from 550€ for one person, with 150€ extra for each additional participant. Gear and e-bike rental available through our rental partner for additional price.
Snow surfing tours
Experience the thrill and freedom of surfing on snow when the swell is high. Our home fells offer excellent quality deep and dry powder usually more than four months a year, which make the Pallas-Yllästunturi area the powsurfing hotspot. We use snowshoes to go up, which we strap to a backpack to shred the way down. The quick transition from riding to hiking allows us to maximize the lap count for the day. Safety, technique and deep local knowledge of the local fells and nature are at the heart of every tour.

Introductory tours, lessons & avalanche education
Get confident going into the backcountry through our comprehensive lessons, introductory tours and avalanche safety training. We teach you the best terrain-specific techniques, efficient use of equipment and where to find the best snow safely. We love taking the first timers out to their first soft snow turns, but we are equally passionate about getting more people to ski mountaineering and shralpinism.
For snowboarders and skiers. Duration: 4-8 hour lessons and introductory tours, multi day avalanche courses. Skill level: Intermediate on-piste skills necessary.
Introductory tour pricing as for other full day tours. Lessons starting from 4 hours from 285€ and full day according to tour pricing. Gear rental available through our rental partner for additional price.

Taneli Roininen
After a 4-year bikepacking trip Taneli settled to Äkäslompolo where his outdoor and park-rat background turned quickly into splitboarding and powsurfing obsession. Taneli is specialized in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park area and equally loves to guide big and remote full day missions as well as teaching splitboarding and powsurfing.
Taneli has completed the FINLAV PRO2 training and holds the qualification of Avalanche Technician. Also as a founder of Frozen Wave, he also oversees the operations.
Janne Koivistoinen
After more than a decade of touring the world in search of perfect snow and scenic big mountain lines Janne has settled to Äkäslompolo. Janne is passionate about getting people into backcountry snowboarding and he loves to share his deep expertise in safe and efficient backcountry travel and finding the best snow, whether it's in the Pallas-Ylläs National Park or the Lyngen Alps.
Janne has completed the FINLAV PRO2 training and holds the qualification of Avalanche Technician and does splitboard guiding and lessons.
